Tekke Turkmen wool rug in deep brown colour very good condition.
|Material:||Wool on cotton|
The discovery of this beautiful antique handmade wool Turkmen rug from Tekke tribes proves the diversity amongst Turkmen rugs. The unique feature of Turkmen rugs and their weaves is that their colours are not uniform. They are innumerable shades of the same colour, known as abrash. This is a feature of natural dyes which gives the rugs character. This obviously can not be said about machine spun yarns and chemical dyes. Measures 200cm x153cm (6'6"x5') and was made around the last quarter of the 19th century, this rug resembles the typical Turkmen design which are rows of Elephant Foot or Gul but in rather unusual antique sundry brown colour. It seemed was made by villagers as its wool texture and softness of the weave is different to the ones made in the city.
