The history of this model:

The New Record was designed by Charles M. Jordan. Stylistically this car was nothing like its predecessor as its body line was inspired by American limousines. Traditionally, it came with five varieties of body types. Ford however has designed a car with an already independent rear suspension (Ford Consula). Due to the increase in weight they started to mount 1.7 and 1.9. engine instead of 1.5. The basic 1700 version produced 66 hp, while 1700 S delivered 82 hp. The most powerful was 1900 S with the power of 98 hp. From August 1972 they also put in their offer 2100 D engine - it was the first diesel engine used in Opel. The engine delivered 61 hp, providing fuel consumption at 8.7 l/100 km [5]. There was also one version prepared for Italian market with 2-litre engine and maximum power 58 hp. Diesel engines were a little taller than the Rekord's petrol engines so all copies of this model with diesel engines distinguished by the hump shaped ridge along the centre of the hood. In Record D they didn’t use straight six-cylinder engines, what supposed to encourage wealthier customers to buy Opel Commodore B. Because in 1975 the amount of lead in fuel has been reduced they introduced new engines as well. The engine power of 1.7 was reduced to 60 hp when 1.9 to 75 hp. New engine versions were introduced: 1900 SH with 90 hp; and 2000 S with 100 hp.
