Nomads are peoples or tribes who move from place to place and live in tents. These people keep sheep, goats and other small livestock, and have large quantities of wool. They spin and weave the wool by hand. Kilims are characterised by simple patterns and a fairly coarse structure. The patterns that are used, have been handed down within the community for centuries and often relate to everyday objects and the immediate surroundings. This rug was used to line the sides and/or roof of a tent (see photo).
This rug is in good condition and was purchased by the seller in 1990, in Sana'a, Yemen.
