This is a print from the series of scenes from the Metamorphoses whose design occupied Goltzius about 1589.The design sketches for this prints are recorded in some of the greatest museums. Goltzius made the drawings as designs for the prints. He probably also surveyed the engraving process by a member of his workshop (Jacob Matham, Jan Saenredam, Jan Muller...) and was involved in the publishing of the series.
