With full plate border and nice margins in a sheet of laid paper. The corners a bid wrinkled, remains of four hinges at the backside.
No folds or tears inside plate border, a few faded brownish spots.

Lettered within image, in lower right: "HGoltzius inuent." and "CIVißcher excud." and "A.o 1590". Lettered in lower margin with four lines of Latin in two columns by Estius: "Tecta petit Phaeton ... / ... pericla sibi. / Estius".

This is a print from the series of scenes from the Metamorphoses whose design occupied Goltzius about 1589.The design sketches for this prints are recorded in some of the greatest museums. Goltzius made the drawings as designs for the prints. He probably also surveyed the engraving process by a member of his workshop (Jacob Matham, Jan Saenredam, Jan Muller...) and was involved in the publishing of the series.
