Middle of 20th century - In good condition
Powerful pole/protection statue of the Fon tribe from Benin. Female, partly abstract statue. Finely carved face. Much nuance and variation in colour all over the statue. The crusty patina shows remnants of kaolin clay, dried blood, (chicken) and reddish brown pigments. The picture exudes a serene and mystical appearance. The insect damage shows that it has been standing in the ground for a long time. The statue is free of insects and mounted on a stand. With the mentioned traces of wear and tear this statue is in good condition.
