These rugs are knotted in the holy city of Qum in central Persia. The material used is silk which makes them thin and tight. The rugs are extremely well made and in some cases, very detailed. This type of carpet demonstrates a beautiful tradition of knotting silk rugs and is one of the best newly made rugs.
Most Ghom carpets are small to middle-sized and many are knotted with luxury silks, others with very fine wool. Ghom carpets are often hung on the walls of their proud owners. The designs are typically curvilinear with flowers in the pattern, but many are woven in a more exquisite scene, often with a tree of life in the design.
Please, take the time to study the carpet in detail and enjoy this work of art.
This rug was exported from Iran before 1 January 2015.
