Description artist: Hendrik (Henk) van Leeuwen of Oudewater born on 22 January 1890 in Ter Aar and died on 23 August 1972 in Voorburg. Henk van Leeuwen was taught at the Royal Academy of Arts in the Hague and at the Académie Colarossi and the École Julian in Paris. He got advice from J.J. van Jole, Willem de Zwart, Jongkind, Toorop, Konijnenburg and others. He painted, watercoloured, etched, drew and lithographs. Van Leeuwen was employed in Oudewater to 1915, the Hague to 1938 and then in Voorburg. He made many study trips abroad, including to: France, Italy, and Spain. He was a member of the Hague Art Circle and of the Pulchri Studio in the Hague.
