This rug was knotted in the city Isfahan, in the south-west of Persia. The rug is considered to be the most beautiful of contemporary, Persian rugs. They are characterised by a high knot density, incredibly detailed patterns and high-quality materials.
Isfahan carpets are of excellent quality, with soft cork wool (often with silk details or stitching) and a very tightly woven pile. The carpets woven in this city are perhaps the best and most valuable in the world. The most popular design is a central medallion surrounded by grapevines or flowers that are usually red, blue or indigo on an ivory background. Other popular design elements and patterns are the vase, garden and tree of life designs, Shah Abbasi patterns and imagery. The inspiration for the carpet design comes from traditional patterns of nature, poetry and the great poets, as well as the rich architectural history of the city.
Please take the time to study the carpet in detail and enjoy this work of art.

In auction photos, the rug appeared white, very light colored with blue highlights. The actual rug is brown colored. The auction photos were heavily edited to show false color. The rug was also dirty.
