About the painter,
Axel Kreher, was born on April 5, 1941 in Maagdenburg, grew up in post-war Frankfurt. Axel was self-taught, but he inherited artistry from both parents. His mother studied at the Bauhaus in Weimar and his father followed a training as a visual artist as well.
Axel had been drawing since his early childhood, but in 1961 he received a painter’s box from his Dutch wife Frouke and that started his career as a professional visual artist.
After he was rejected by the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam twice, he managed to weave his drawing skills with painting under the inspiring leadership of Ina vd Heuvel and A.T. Blomjous. His paintings have ended up with a large following at home and abroad.
Axel Kreher passed away on June 22, 2001 in Venhuizen in Noord-Holland.
This painter is represented in the book "Oude meesters van morgen" together with other painters such as: Johfra, Diana Vandenberg, Ellen Loriën, Victor Linford, Frans Erkelens en Johan Hermsen, Bas Kloens and Jean Thomassen.
Mr. Daan Enneking (known for the Enneking collection) was a great collector of this painter. Unfortunately, the Enneking collection, including a large number of paintings by Axel Kreher, was lost in November 2008 in a big fire.
This painting comes from a private collection.
