After Jan Toorop (1858-1928) - 'Sanctus en Madonna' - 1923

Size lithograph: 15.5 x 19.5 cm. With frame: 27.5 x 32 cm. In its original wooden frame, which can confirm the age and originality of the work. Jan Toorop (1858-1928) is considered one of the most talented Dutch artists from the period around 1900. Like Piet Mondriaan, Jan Sluijters, Leo Gestel, and Kees van Dongen, he has contributed immensely to the development of modern art in the Netherlands. Toorop took a drawing course at the polytechnic school in Delft (1876-1879). Subsequently, he studied at the national academy of visual arts in Amsterdam (1880-1882) and at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Brussels (1882-1885). In the Netherlands, he became the leader of the Jugendstil movement. In 1905 he converted to Catholicism, after which he almost exclusively did religious subjects and portraits painted in his 'linear idealism', a religious-oriented Art-Nouveau style, with which he focused on the direction of symbolism with its refined style, and its technical virtuosity. The framework weighs 972 grams? This is fairly heavy! If one moves the frame from left to right, it seems like something is shifting on the inside? Is something hidden inside?
