A beautiful Chinese cup and saucer with a refined decoration. The saucer is decorated with an identical decoration of a house in a rocky landscape. Surrounding it is water, which is represented with horizontal lines in different colour depths. A geometric band has been placed around that. The cup has similar decorations, with the geometrical band on the inside and on the bottom a small decoration. The cup and saucer come from the world-famous wreck of the V.O.C. Ship the 'Geldermalsen', better known as the Nanking Cargo, one of the biggest porcelain auctions at Christie's. The ship Geldermalsen was on its way with porcelain from the imperial ovens of Jingdezhen to the Netherlands, but hit a reef and sank in 1752 in the South-Chinese sea near Nanking. Collection stickers: On the bottom a sticker from The Nanking Cargo Christie's, lot number 5104. Condition: The saucer has a tiny hairline crack from a tiny edge fritting. The cup has a small crack and a nibble along the edge. Otherwise entirely undamaged.
