Märklin H0 - 39420 - Electric locomotive Re 4/4 I series of the SBB
Company number: 10015

Electric locomotive Re 4/4 I series of the Swiss Railways (SBB). In original green operation condition from era III around 1965.
Model with controlled high-efficiency propulsion. All 4 axles powered. Traction tyres. Separately mounted walkways on roof. Placed hand-rails in metal. Display of transition plates in front and handles. Swiss change of light (triple front signal/white rear signal) directional, conventional in operation, digitally controlled. Lighting with low-maintenance LED’s.
Length over buffers: 17,1 cm

Historically:
The Re 4/4 marked a new era; in 1947 a new locomotive generation appeared on the Swiss tracks. With the purchase of the Re 4/4 the Swiss Railways could change their total concept of train transportation. The locomotive on bogies, without axles and with a maximum speed of 125 km/h, made possible considerably shorter travel times. Even today they are being considered a milestone in Swiss locomotive construction history. This fast machine is rather light with its operation weight of just 57 tons. It marked the transition from heavy, slow train traffic to fast city connections with short stopping times. The universally usable machines, with a capacity of 1855 kW (2520 HP), were suitable for both rational use as shuttle trains and operation in multiple traction. Their nice acceleration power and the electric dynamic brake made them the ideal combination for the comfortable SBB-Leichstahl wagons. These sets determined the sight of Swiss passenger traffic for many years.
