Up for sale a beautiful religious Cyprus Icon copy of a Byzantine Icon in excellent used condition depicting Jesus Christ Pantokrator, Christ the Teacher. Beautifully enamel coated, lovely details.
On the back of the icon, on the wood, is the name written of the Trooditissa Monastery - Cyprus (see photograph).

The image of Christ Pantocrator was one of the first images of Christ developed in the Early Christian Church and remains a central icon of the Eastern Orthodox Church. In the half-length image, Christ holds the New Testament in his left hand and makes the gesture of teaching or of blessing with his right.

The TROODITISSA MONASTERY is located on the southern slopes of the Troodos Mountains, the Trooditissa Monastery is one of the very few monasteries in Cyprus where the date of formation is unknown. It is believed though based on local tradition that it was founded just after the iconoclastic era (8th-9th century A.D.). The monasteries in general in Cyprus were built after a hermit or hermits had been there originally, often in caves, living a life of spiritual struggle. The monasteries were then subsequently built around these holy men. The same applies in the instance of Troditissa Monastery. The oldest reference we have of the monastery is of a 14th century deed.

Mooie kavel, prima verpakt. Advies aan alle verkopers: vermijd PostNL: vaak troubles. Bij mij nu ook weer: hele dag gewacht: niets; pakket blijkt beneden in hal van flat gezet zonder aanbellen.
