William Roscoe, born in 1753 in Liverpool and died in the same city in 1832 was a banker, writer, historian, and botanist. He was a pioneer in his country in the study of Italian culture, particularly by translating the works of Luigi Tansillo. In 1802 he founded the Botanical Garden of his city.
