Frits Godhelp was a longtime artist with the Dutch Toonder Studios. Born in Amsterdam in 1927, he joined the studios in 1943. He started out inking film cells for the animation department, but was eventually assigned to work on the comics projects. He worked on many of the studio's newspaper comics, mainly as an inker, such as “Olle Kapoen”, “Kappie”, and “Tom Poes”. He was also involved in the production of the weekly “Tom Poes” comics for Donald Duck and Revue. For Tom Poes weekly magazine he also had his own comics, such as “Bas en van der Pluim” (1947-50).
Godhelp was one of the few artists actually employed by the studios. Until the early 1990s he worked on the castle in Nederhorst ten Berg with his colleagues Piet Wijn, Jaap Lamberton, Wim Lensen and Richard Klokkers.
The now offered, beautiful original pencil drawing was made by Frits Godhelp in the mid-1990s as a preliminary study for a watercolour. The drawing has never been published.
Original work in colour of Tom Puss & Sir Bumble, created by Frits Godhelp, is very rare.
