Probably end of 1700, wood and leather, good condition
Unusual and rare small box in wood covered with leather, and fully working original lock with key.
We could evaluate that it dates back at least from end of 1700/beginning of 1800 - but it could be older.
Dimensions are around 25 x 35 x 15 cm - it is mounted on 4 small wooden feet.
As you can see, the box is completely studded with brass nails, holding the leather covering and forming an array of decorative patterns.
The box bears some initials on the front - "SMB" and "SDB". - at the two sides of the lock.
The interior of the bow was originally covered with a green fabric. However, it has been applied a sticky paper covering over it, possibly to protect it, so this must be removed.
Also, a few of the nails are missing, especially the ones on the back, holding the hinges - so they are a bit loose nowadays, but a small restoration would work miracles to turn back time and let this fascinating object return to its pristine condition.
The box can be transferred manually to the buyer, or shipped via registered courier service at cost.
There will be an addition to the cost indicated because of the insurance (around 1% pf the final price - as this cost is based on the adjudication price, so cannot be calculated beforehand).
The leather also shows the signs of time, and has cracked in some places - but the damage, as you can see, it is really minimal.
