In 1957, Ed van der Elsken stayed, at the invitation of his brother-in-law Milou Leynaud, in French Equatorial Africa for three months. Milou is an ethnologist and district head in the area Oubangui Chari. The book shows life in the remote villages. Remarkably, Van der Elsken also used a flash. The second part of the book is about safaris and hunting. In the text by Jan Vrijman, based on interviews with the photographer, Van der Elsken provides his vision on this hunt.
