chevron or rosetta beads were invented by a master glassmaker from Venice in the early 16th century They used to have a great value due to the complexity of their crafting. In the 17th century, Holland and Bohemia began to craft them in England.
Rosetta beads are beads in which the cut reveals a star drawing, usually with 12 branches. They are made of several layers around a central axis. The number of layers varies between 4 and 9 depending on the pearl type and their age.
In Africa, these pearls used to have a magical value given by the 12 branches of the star. This could be a reference to the 12 zodiac signs or the 12 astrological houses The biggest were reserved for Kings and notables. They could be a part of the dowry of a marriage and can be found in the graves. Nowadays, these beads are still highly sought after.
