Kilim is a flat fabric made of warp and weft threads without knot or cord. Motifs are made by alternating the colours of the structural wefts into which additional wefts are inserted.

The Kazak district spreads to the east up to Karabagh and to the north, to the Armenian region, and reaches the Anatolian border region to the west.

Horizontal strips, very decorative, are repeated using the same colours, width and motifs. A larger strip, decorated with stylised crabs, informs us of the proximity of the Caspian sea.
Six alternating delicate strips use a zigzag motif, symbolising the divine and the "earth-mother".

CRAFTSMEN
Caucasian Kilim carpets stand out thanks to the precision of their geometric motifs, their colours and the excellent quality of their wool, very silky; the craftsmen stay loyal to a certain ideal of decoration and pass on the traditions of their ancestors from generation to generation.
This antique kilim carpet is therefore the expression of the aesthetic conception of simple men, living in isolated villages in tents, on high plateaus, to the unchanging rhythm of herd migrations.
The fine texture of this kilim, woven according to the "slit carpets" technique, delights us by his beauty and antique carpet patina.

ANECDOTE:
The geographic situation of a carpet can be estimated at first sight; if the crabs remind us of the sea, their size informs us of the altitude. Indeed, the smaller the motif is, the more likely it is that the kilim was made in plains; in this case, we can assume that it was woven in a mountainous region, although this isn't an exact science, tribal pieces always keep a part of their mystery...
