The Titanic is a British transatlantic liner from the White Star Line company that was built on the initiative of Bruce Ismay in 1907. At the time, it was the most luxurious and largest liner ever built.
During its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York, it was wrecked after hitting an iceberg with its front hull on the starboard side, at 23:40 (local time) on April 14, 1912. She sank on 15 April, 1912 at 2:20 off the coast of Newfoundland. Between 1,490 and 1,520 people disappeared, which makes this event one of the largest maritime disasters in peace time and the biggest at the time.
