Nice laid paper with large watermark of a foolshead with bells.
Conditie: Good condition inside the plate border. Full plate border and margins at three sides, short at bottom beneath the text line.
Small restored gap in the bottom left margin.
Calliope, the epic muse, has an open book in her hand and carries a laurel wreath on her head. To the right of her are books. Under the show two two-part verses in Latin. Signed HG Invent, CJVisscher Excud.
This print was engraved in the 1601-1652 period (source Rijksmuseum Amsterdam). It is an engraving by another hand after the Golzius print known as New Hollstein Dutch 129-copy d (Hirschmann 1921 148, Hollstein 148, Strauss 1977 299, Bartsch III.45.146)
