Watchmaker Paul Choffat opened a watch workshop in 1912 in his home town Tramelan. In 1923 he was known for his watertight and shock-resistant watches. In 1926, he presented a patented mechanical digital clock in his collection. In 1930, the brand name HOGA was registered. It is composed of Ho for Horlogerie and Ga for guarantee. In 1942 James Choffat took over the business. The company was also known around 1960 by its mechanical watches with digital display. From 1979, Hoga watches were fitted with very hard sapphire lenses. Between the watchmakers Hoga Auguste Reymond SA, and Damas a close cooperation was established. Later these watches became members of ASUAG.
