In excellent condition - a sublime artistic representation
Beautiful bronze sculpture created by a Neapolitan bronze craftsman in the last quarter of the 19th century, depicting a personification of the moon with angels. The representation shows 19th-century typical features (the torch held by the angel in his hand), along with a caprice of the artist, who wanted to represent the moon with human features. The great skill of the results from the lack of chiselling (usually performed on bronze sculptures, after casting), as the work was carved out of a single casting, with no further further nor roughing of the residues of casting in some areas. Dimensions are indicated in pictures (42 x 36 cm).
Weight is 4,000 g approx. and depth 6 cm.
Similar pieces can only be found in the most important art collections. Unfortunately, pictures do not show the sculpture’s excellent qualities.
The sculpture has been cleaned recently by a well-known Neapolitan bronze craftsman and, on this occasion, a bronze bar was inserted on back, to allow wall mounting.
