Traces of intensive religious use, making clear that this is a statue of at least 100 years old

Wonderful large church statue of Christ Sacred Heart of plaster. This impressive Jesus statue shows plenty of signs of intensive religious use over the past 100 years, which gives the statue character and a nice age patina.
The statue was made of plaster, which was common around 1900.

The devotion of the Sacred or Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is an expression for a specific spirituality, as it takes shape in the Roman Catholic Church. The worship of Jesus Christ takes shape out of love and mercy, which are symbolised by Jesus’ Heart.

In very good condition. The statue was made of plaster and the outside is covered with a polychrome coat of paint. It depicts Jesus. It is standing on a console and shows the injuries of the crucifixion and shows his heart.
The sacred heart devotion began through the messages about the visions of Margaret Mary Alacoque (1646-1690). Jesus would have shown his bleeding heart to her. According to this nun from the French Paray-Le-Monial she came to share Jesus’ grief due to the large number of people who rejected his love. This image may have been cast by the Paridon brothers in Amsterdam. It was created around 1900 or even earlier.

The Jesus statue will be carefully packaged and shipped with insurance.
