This piece of glass artwork is a significant glass sculpture from the mid 20th century. Tapio Wirkkala's Ice block bowl or so called Jäänsärö by Iittala can be found in "Tapio Wirkkala: Eye, Hand & Thought" on pages 150 & 300 It is a still mould blown crystal form with assymetric faceted sides and a hand hammered rim Production was limited and is incised on the bottom "TAPIO WIRKKALA 3847". The design inspiration comes from the assymetric chunks of arctic ice found in Wirkkala's homeland of Finland. Size 220 x 160 x 77 mm Weight 1396 grammes Very good condition.
