Maria Engelina van Regteren Altena (Amsterdam, 28 December 1868 – Amsterdam, 6 July 1958) was a Dutch painter. She was part of the “Amsterdam Joffers”, a group of friendly Amsterdam painters who studied at the Amsterdam State Academy of Fine Arts at the end of the 19th century. Van Regteren Altena especially made still lifes and flower pieces.
She began her studies in 1893 until 1896, and subsequently moved to Apeldoorn in 1897. During a study trip, she visited Prague, Rome and Southern France. She stayed in Apeldoorn until 1917, after which she returned to Amsterdam. She held on to her studio in Hoog Soeren, until it was destroyed during the Second World War. Van Regteren Altena was a member of Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam and Pulchri in the Hague. Her work can be found in several Dutch museums.
