Made in France, second half of the 19th century.

Two antique ceramic artworks – French porcelain. First artwork: Ceramic vase marked Sarreguemines U & C Jardinier Dec. 729 dating between 1875-1900, with polychrome decoration of two Arabian mythological phoenixes, symbol of rebirth, with several stylized ornaments in Renaissance style. Sturdy, heavy ceramic called "strong earthenware", which is also produced in Italy mainly by the Società Ceramica in Laveno. Sarreguemines is a French village and was a famous district for ceramics and majolica. In good condition: a little mark inside the neck. Dimensions: Height: 24 cm, Second artwork: Limoges porcelain plate: hand-painted cookie plate portraying a lake view with boats, decorated with a branch and peach flowers, framed by a yellow flower wreath with two cartouches and initials on the side. Signed at the bottom left side: Bargif M. manufacturer marks on the back: CFM GDM "Charles Field Haviland", located in Limoges - France, between 1882 and 1891. Brief history of Charles Field Haviland: Charles Field Haviland left America to move to Limoges in 1850 and started working for his uncle, founder of David Haviland of Haviland and Co., and rented a porcelain factory in partnership with his father and brother. Later he opened his own porcelain decoration studio to export items to the United States and in 1868 purchased a porcelain manufacturing company. He married the niece of Francois Newton and later took control of the porcelain manufactory of Newton, one of the oldest ones in Limoges. Charles Field retired in 1881 and the company became known under the name of Gerard, Dufraisseix and Morel using the white ware mark GDM. One of the partners changed around 1890 and the company was renamed to Gerard Dufraisseix and eventually Gerard, Dufraisseix and Abate (GDA mark). They still trade today as Porcelaine GDA-Royal Limoges but obviosuly the Haviland CH mark now belongs to Robert Haviland and Co. Parlon. Manufacturer: Charles Field Haviland (CFH GDM). Date: Antique - 1882 The plate has a gilded bronze base with legs and lion feet, while the entire border is decorated with acanthus leaves. Good condition with age-appropriate wear only. Dimensions: L. 38 cm D. 21 cm H. 12 cm
