Twilight over the snowy Ryogoku bridge
8 snow-covered places in the Eastern capital.
The story behind this series is quite remarkable. The drawings of this series have been made in 1848 by Hiroshige. Instead of the drawings being used for cutting the wooden stamps (wood blocks), the black and white drawings were probably sold to a Dutch trader in Nagasaki, who took them to Europe. The drawings surfaced again in France in 1927. In the following year the prints were published after all. Seeing as there were only 100 copies made of this first edition, it is probable that this print is one of a later edition.
