Overall in good condition - 69 cm - 4.3 kilograms
Very large hand-painted composite sculpture - Neo-Gothic crowned Madonna with Baby Jesus - Germany - beginning of 20th century
In the Gothic style - rare when made of composite and in this large size - the hand of Madonna was made loose.
The crowned Mary is carrying baby Jesus in her left arm - the Queen of Heaven has a crescent moon under her right foot - the crescent moon refers to the book of revelation, where John writes about his vision of "a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet".
Jesus had the globe in his hands, which refers to ruling the world.
Condition: In good general condition with signs of age/wear - there is some loss of polychrome in some places - part of the staff in Mary’s hand has broken off and the finger has been glued - at the bottom there is a chip (here the composite material is easily visible) - on the back there is a metal suspension eye, but the statue can also stand - see all photos to form your own opinion!
Approx. size: 69 x 25.5 x 9 cm
Weight: 4.3 kilograms.
Material: Composite consisting of sawdust, flax seed, glue and other resin/ingredients - This composite was generally used at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.
