¶ Abrahamus Trommius, actually: Abraham Trom (Groningen, 23 August 1633 - 29 may 1719) was a Dutch preacher and theologian. He belonged to the Dutch Reformed Church. He is known for his Bible concordance, called the Trommius.
Trommius studied philosophy, literature and theology at the University of Groningen. After finishing his studies in Groningen, he made several foreign study trips; he visited cities such as London, Geneva, Basel and Montauban.
After his academic studies he became a preache in Haren in 1658. In 1671 he moved to the city of Groningen.
Apart from preaching, he also dedicated himself to writing many theological works. The best known is his concordance on the Dutch Authorized Version of the Bible from 1637. In 1662 he and Johannes Martinus, his father-in-law, started working on the concordance, in which the locations of each word in the Bible is indicated. After the death of his father-in-law in 1665 he continued this enormous work on his own. Between 1672 and 1691 the complete concordance of both the Old and New Testament saw the light of day. This standard work in three volumes became a household name and was reprinted many times, until the present day. In 1717 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Groningen.
