Country of origin: D.R.C, SABA or LUBA.
Dating: 1st quarter of the 20th century. Materials: wood and 2 colour pigments (kaolin). Condition: very good surface appearance - Different age cracks - have a look at the pictures. Original, unrestored version.
This mask was danced.
The colours are mostly Black-White, and they shaded off a little over the years (among other things, Kaolin clay pigment).
Tribally used, the holes and their surroundings present some wear (they were hand-pierced) they were used to attach the costume to the mask. It presents many empty insect cocoons.
There are some dryness cracks due to the age, have a good look at the pictures.
Inside, there is a skin-related patina (sebum), obtained by its tribal use as a dance mask.
Traces of wear and use are also to expect.
