This carpet was knotted in a workshop in the city of Kerman, in south-eastern Persia.
A large number of carpets are sold to palaces all over the world. The base colour often is red, and the pattern is dominated by a large medallion and a wide border filled with flowers.
Kerman rugs often have a fan of medallions and floral decorations, but the tree-of-life structure is popular as well. Just like Tabriz, rugs from Kerman can come in many designs. The quality of these rugs is high, with knotting densities between 250,000-600,000 knots per m². The colours of Kerman carpets may vary, but in general, red, blue and purple are used.
Please take the time to study the rug in detail and enjoy this work of art.
This carpet was exported from Iran before 1 January 2015.
