Like all dinosaurs Keichousaurus belonged to the family of reptiles. Due to the heavy bone structure scholars believe that these reptiles were about to make the evolutionary step from sea to land. These reptiles were killed as a result of a volcanic eruption about 250 million years ago. When the volcanic ash dried up, cracks were formed. These cracks were filled up with water that formed the calcite veins in the rock that you can see. Often the stone plates break on these veins. That's what happened with this specimen too, but then it was carefully and skilfully put back together.
Wonderful rare beautifully prepared keichousaurus with lots of details. Size 14.7 cm. (18.4 cm in stretched position) The matrix measures 19,5 x 12.6 cm and is 1 cm thick. Solid plate.
Beautiful decorative fossil.
