Cornelis Raaphorst (1875-1954) - Twee katjes

Beautiful work by Raaphorst . Oil paint on canvas. Dimensions 25 x 20 cm. The work is depicted on the back cover of Cornelis Raaphorst’s latest book. The book will be included in the lot. Newly framed. Currently, the paintings by Cornelis Raaphorst are being offered for sale regularly and enthusiastically welcomed at the Dutch and international art fairs. A ‘kitty’ painting of the painter can even be found in a museum in London. This has not always been the case, placed in the context of the time in which Cornelis Raaphorst lived. His paintings do not show that they were painted in poor circumstances, they always show a lush atmosphere. The self-taught painter, who was initially a house painter, worked very hard to provide a living for his wife and nine children. Assignments on behalf of third parties, sales through the art trade and barter trade with the local suppliers, kept the artist busy. The painter came from an old farmer family from Wassenaar and lived in a modest home in the ‘Hallekenstraat’ in Wassenaar. Initially, Cornelis Raaphorst specialized in still lifes, later in flowers and landscapes. After that he specialized in his well-known ‘kitty’ paintings, which eventually made him famous.
