The true first edition from Royal Italian Library

Condition: Fine
Language: Italian
Edition: 1st Edition
Publication year: 1625
Author: Agostino Mascardi
Book Title: Prose Vulgari di Monsignor Agostina Mascardi
Number of Books: 1
Publisher: Venice, Fontana
Binding: Hardback

Venice, Fontana MVCXXV (1625)

Complete and in fine condition, small 4to (22 by 17cm)

Vol. 1. (30—including an errata leaf), 183 pages
Vol. 2. Parte Seconda 234 pages
Vol. 3. Le Pompe 40 pages (2)

Bound in full period vellum with faint ring stains from chianti wine glasses? A few greasy pizza spots to margins of the first 10 pages or so not effecting text

Ex Libris Victor Enmanuel (King of Italy)

A very important book by the Father of modern historical theory. Not bad for an ex Jesuit.

All editions were published after this 625 edition and differ in pagination. I surmise this 1625 edition is the true first while the subsequent ones corrected the errors noted in it. All notable US libraries, Newberry, Morgan, Huntington, etc. have the 1630 edition. Only two Italian libraries hold copies of the 1625 edition. The ice cream on the top is this book's Royal provenance.

  • Shipping costs much too high, book missed one color illustration which was not mentioned in item description.

    Groeg September 13, 2017

    Response by seller
It's not missing a drawing that was never called for. He knew what the shipping cost would be before he bid. Will not be allowed to bid on anymore of my auctions

The books received are in a much worse condition than described:. Spine of Vol. I is not only "tender", but open from top to bottom. All four spine ends are damaged. Both backs with lack of leather.

    Response by seller
Where are the scans of the damages? I pack books well but cannot held responsible for PO damage or clumsy buyers.
  • The book was wet and moldy

    florentiuvalentintanascov September 7, 2017

    Response by seller
Unless the PO dropped it into a puddle, there was no way it was wet and "moldy" No scans provided—just a buyer trying to sully my reputation. (most likely he was upset with the price he paid)

135 euro is hierboven aangegeven; Ik betaalde 144 euro. De verzendkosten bij deze verkoper zijn extreem

    Response by seller
If he thinks shipping is too expensive DON"T BUY IT He knows what exactly the shipping cost will be before he bid on it. It cost me $35 USD to ship him the books exactly what I charged him.
  • Lovely item - as described, thank you.
