In very good condition - thumb restored

A marble sacred heart statue made in the studio of sculptor J. Custers in Eindhoven. Petrus Johannes Lodevicus (Jan) Custers (Stratum, 10 September 1867 – Venlo, 25 May 1942) was a Dutch sculptor and artist who made interiors for neo-gothic churches. He also gained international recognition during his lifetime. He was a friend of the Belgian sculptor Jules Vits. Jan Custer made sacred heart statues for several parishioners.

This statue was acquired from a municipal parish in the northern part of the province North Holland after their building closed.
This is an exemplary marble Christ figure, dressed in a draped garment. His left index finger is pointing towards the flaming sacred heart on his chest. He is holding his right arm downward alongside his body, with the palm of the hand reaching forward. The heart represents Christ's life and suffering, while the flame represents love and mercy.

The thumb became detached from the hand in the past which was restored and misses a part of the index finger.
Sculpture of very high quality of a high segment.

Size:
Height: 63 cm
Width: 29 cm
Depth: 19 cm
Weight: extremely heavy approx. 25 kg.
Material: Marble

The thumb became detached from the hand in the past which was restored and misses a part of the index finger.

Insured and registered shipping with track and trace. Sent carefully packaged.

Satisfied with the product. I believe it is a not too old reproduction of the ancient XIXth Century design, but looks great.
