Original metal housing, internally restored where needed in authentic and playing condition
This Philips tube reception device type 2534 from 1930 comes from my own collection. This device was not yet provided with a built-in speaker: it had to be purchased separately. Along with the round bakelite scale speaker of Philips type 2007 (Pancake) from 1929, the so-called Philips Popular Combination. (This speaker type 2007 by Philips can also be found in this auction.)
Philips released this device in three different housings at the time, of which this edition in the metal housing got the type number 2534, with a power stage of 1.3 watts. Switching it off is done simply by removing the plug from the wall socket...
The metal casing is finish with craquelure lacquer, red background and brown top layer from which the subsurface comes through. The cabinet is closed with a matching lid.
This device cost Hfl.145.00 at the time and had 3 bands, spread across Middle and Long Wave, connection for gramophone and high-impedance speaker (around 2000 ohms) on the back. The device is set to a mains voltage of 225 V - 50 Hz by means of a voltage terminal block. For good radio reception, a long wire antenna is (of course) necessary, whereby depending on the antenna length, one can choose from 3 antenna inputs.
The device has (left and right) two tuning knobs, a volume control, a feedback regulator and three-way wavelength switch. The chassis number is 025486.
There (naturally) are some signs of wear and aging on the device, but these are not really disturbing. The craquelure layer is damaged or worn in some places, but has been kept in the original condition for authenticity purposes. There is very little to no corrosion on the chassis and sheet material. The power cord of the receiver has been replaced at the time for a safe and matching power cord with plug because of decayed insulation. The tube setting is as follows: E442 (E462) - E424 - B443 (C453) en 506 (1805). The dimensions are 360 x 185 x 210 mm. The weight is approximately 8 kilos.
Because of the vulnerability, it is preferable to pick up the radio device in Amersfoort-NL. Possible shipping is done properly packaged, and by registered and insured mail.
