Silver grade 925/1000; 23 cms; 1284b gms (weighted)
A pair of sterling silver candlesticks fashioned in the Rococo style made in Sheffield, England in 1824 in the reign of George IV, As can be clearly seen from the photographs the rococo patterning is still well defined.. There are some dents In keeping with their age but these are mainly confined to the narrow rims at the bottom of the sticks and the rims below the nozzles and therefore covered up by them.
Although the hallmarks at the base of the sticks have been rubbed by almost two hundred years of polishing these are clearly impressed on the detachable nozzles, including the letter a for 1824 surmounted by the crown symbol of the Sheffield Assay Office; the head of the monarch, George IV and lion passant for sterling silver. (Photo 7) Each stick has a small engraving on the base of some sort of heraldic beast with a pennant, presumably the coat of arms of some earlier owner. (Photo 9)There are a couple of small holes in the base of one of the sticks, one of which has been filled. For the sake of clarity these have been much magnified in photo 10.
but are not at all prominent and could be easily repaired.
The candlesticks are 23 cms tall and measure 13 cms at the base and have a substantial feel to them. The pair weigh 1284 gms but this includes the customary weighting.
The candlesticks will be shipped internationally with tracking.
