This is a hand-knotted Keshan rug, made of durable, natural materials. Imperfections in the patterns and shape make this rug unique and emphasise its authentic and artisanal character.
Keshan (or Kashan) is located slightly north of central Iran.
Keshan is one of the resting places along the Silk Road.
Characteristic for a Keshan rug is a wonderfully designed medallion, trees and figurative patterns.
There also are Keshan rugs that are completely covered in floral motifs. The most common colours are red, blue and beige.
Keshan rugs are durable rugs, made of high-quality wool, often with a rich shine, on a cotton warp (bobbin thread). They are excellent rugs for regular use and have a high durability.
Later on, Keshan rugs were also made in India, in this case they are called oriental rugs.
This is a used carpet, which has become more beautiful and richer in character due to the natural ageing process.
This rug was imported from Iran before 2000.
Main colour: Red.
Shades of cream, pink, brown, mustard yellow and blue.
Signs of wear:
Slightly worn spots.
