Mir rugs are knotted in the mountainous area in and around Arak, in western Iran.
Characteristic for a Mir is the contemporary design, called Boteh or Paisley pattern, a drop-shape with the tip pointing in one direction.
A Mir often has a continuous pattern, but some have a medallion and corner patterns.
Mir rugs are durable rugs made of wool on a cotton warp (bobbin thread). They often are thick, full rugs with an exceptionally high durability.
This is a used carpet; often, these become more beautiful and richer in character due to the natural ageing process.
