Fundamental and masterful translation, second edition more scarce and much better than the first, dating from 1581. Annibal Caro (1507-1566), a native of Civitanova in Marches, he studied in Florence where he made the acquaintance of Benedetto Varchi. Subsequently, he entered the service of the Farnese, he enjoyed significant revenue ensuring a rich material life and thus dedicated himself fully to his literary activity. His reputation is primarily related to his remarkable translation of "the Aeneid" by Virgil published for the first time in 1581, translation that he improved greatly during the reissue of 1612. This work in this translation will remain a classic for many centuries. As an author, Caro composed his "Rime"(1569) and "Gli straccioni" (1582). In 1563 Caro will leave his post with the Farnese and retires into his villa in Frascati, during the last years of his life, he will prepare the edition of his correspondence and will refine his translation of Virgil.
