The Excalibur backgammon game was made after an original design, and according to strict quality standards by Franklin Mint. This is about the first Backgammon game for collectors that has ever been issued by Franklin Mint. Each piece bears a portrait in high relief, and the board is enclosed in a frame made of solid cherry wood. The solid pieces are made of bronze. Fifteen pieces are 22 carat gold-plated and 15 pieces are silver-plated with 24 carat silver. During almost 30 years the pieces have partially acquired a little patina, especially the silver-plated. Perhaps this can still be polished off with a cleaning cloth if this is annoying. But ultimately this patina is precisely part of this rare and old collector's item. This item is a real collector's item and it was never played with. The board has no drag marks from dragging the pieces and these are not a bit worn. At the frame there is a slight material irregularity which has been supplied in the original state. Some small damage, see photos. The lot is complete and contains a game board, 2 x 15 pieces, detailed description of each character, dice cups, dice, “doubling” cube. A quite unusual Backgammon game, very representative, very noble and of the highest quality. A real piece of jewellery and a feast for the eye. Dimensions: approx. 67 x 37 cm, 10 cm in height.
