The meteorite comes from Seymchan, province of Magadan. Russia.
The meteorite was discovered in 1967 in the province of Magadan in Russia. It was first classified as octahedral siderite then reclassified as pallasite after the discovery of many other fragments containing olivine.
The geologist F. A. Mednikov found the main mass (272.3 kg) in the bed of a stream flowing into the river Hekandue in 1967. A second smaller mass (50 kg) was found by I. H. Markov 20 m from the first one in October 1967, using a mine detector.
The main mass of the meteorite is now conserved at the Academy of sciences of Russia in Moscow.
