Vauxhall Victor classic car steering wheel.
1960s.

The Vauxhall Victor is a large family car produced by Vauxhall between 1957 and 1976. The Victor was introduced to replace the outdated Wyvern model. In 1976, it was labelled as part of the Vauxhall VX series and remained in production until 1978, therefore the car became significantly larger, at least from the perspective of customers in its domestic market, and was regarded as a larger than average family car.

The VX series was replaced by the Carlton (which was based on the German Opel Rekord Series E). The last Victor, the Victor FE, was also produced under license by Hindustan Motors in India, carrying the name Hindustan Contessa, during the 1980s and early 1990s with an Isuzu engine.

For a short period of time, the Victor was the most popular export car of Great Britain, [2] selling to markets as remote as the United States (sold by Pontiac dealerships, as Vauxhall was part of GM since 1925), Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, as well as Asian markets, concerning the right-hand driven cars, such as Ceylon (Sri Lanka), India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.

In Canada, it was sold as the Vauxhall Victor (sold by Pontiac/Buick dealerships) and as the Envoy (sold by Chevrolet/Oldsmobile dealerships). The Victor also played in instrumental role in being Vauxhall’s first self-designed car, an addition to the 4-door saloon.
