Egyptian Terracotta 
Material :  
Dating Egyptian,  Naqada II period (3300-3200 BC) 
Origin: Egypt. 
Size: 4 1/8 Inches (10.5Cm )
Condition: Preserved condition, losses to nose, restoration on the right side of the mask as can be seen on the images.

This Naqada II "D ware" style vessel is of ovoid form with two horizontal lug handles and a wide-lipped rim. The red ochre decoration is slightly different than other examples in the positioning of the rush lines. The wavy lines are painted vertically and grouped in four bands that circulate horizontally around the vessel. This pattern contrasts most D ware vessels becuase although rush lines are a common motif, they are usually painted horizontally inside vertical bands rather than vertically as a representation of water. This vertical depiction could represent snakes or plants instead.
