Port Ellen 24 yr 1978 '2nd release' (59,35%, OB 2002, 12.000 btl.) No box.
Nose: one of the sharp and tight noses. Sharp phenols, vegetable oils and many grass notes. Lemon. Moves to camphor and even a hint of ammonia. Eucalyptus. Farmy notes in the background. After a while, a very light fruity / honeyed nut comes out. It's pretty sharp, but it also shows a remarkable finesse. Mouth: a little warm, but also chewier and sweeter than expected. Oranges and pears, lemonade. Medium peat and a good dose of salt. Actually more ash than real peat. Another gritty edge pointing to Brora. A little coffee (this can be the alcohol), a little wax and liquorice too. Finish: long, slightly bitter-sweet, with sweet peat and some wood.
