This Rover P5 Saloon was delivered new in 1973 to the much talked-of Amsterdam businessman Maup Caransa. The well-known real estate dealer who was the target of a never solved kidnapping case in 1977, which has cost him a payment of 10 million guilders in ransom. 

When this Rover P5 was still young it was often indicated as the ‘Poor man’s Rolls’. We wonder wat Mr. Caransa thought of this label, but when we look at this version we can understand the label. Although the appearance of this classic car doesn’t immediately remind us of the Silver Shadow (its contemporary of Rolls Royce), the P5 does share some features with the Rolls Royce. The Rover has an elegant look, especially with the beautiful red paintwork. The chrome trim certainly adds to its elegant appearance. Inside the Rover we find the old and successful recipe for a luxurious look: a light interior and a dashboard finished with wood.

When we open the folder with the maintenance documents, we experience a musty odour. All the documents are present, although they are slightly discoloured. It exudes nostalgia. On the old vehicle registration certificate, which is placed in the front of the folder, we read that we are dealing with a 3.5 litre saloon. That is the last version of the P5. It was equipped with a 3.5 litre eight cylinder which was purchased from Buick. The original name actually gives a distorted image of this car. In 2006, this Rover was namely equipped with a completely new engine block that also runs on LPG. Instead of the original 3.5 litre V8 it presently has a 4.2 litre V8 in the engine compartment. We honestly cannot say for sure how much power that new engine block generates. We don’t doubt that it is sufficient to provide the driver with an enjoyable ride!

-  This P5 left the factory in 1973 and was rejuvenated in 2006 when it was equipped with a new, larger engine block.

This P5 runs on both petrol and LPG

- It features elegant dark red paintwork, which requires some attention in places (small bubbles)

- All maintenance documents of the last owner are present
