Antique coin cabinet - Japan - Late 19 century

Splendid example of a Japanese coin cabinet from the late 19th century, probably an original piece from Japan, used by French furniture makers as a model

The coin cabinet has four front drawers, a series of six lateral drawers, two-door front opening with lock (the key is missing) finely decorated with peacock and two porcelain inserts, inserts in bronze foil chiselled by hand, and hinge which is also in detailed bronze foil (with some small nails and a winglet of the hinge missing), and lastly, with three small drawers inside the central door. At the top there is a flap with lock (missing key) with various compartments inside it and two side containers. The drawers have small handles and knobs in chiselled gilt bronze, while the overlooking corners are decorated with moulded bronze leaf. Of note are the fine porcelain inserts decorated with floral motifs. Bracket feet.

Condition: There is some separation of the antique colouring. This small item of furniture is in decent condition but with expert restoration it could be returned to to the splendour of an antique, original and rare piece of history. No xylophagous insects are present.

Size: 37 x 59 x 18 cm.

For expert collectors.

Piece of art from a private collection after dispersion of an inheritance, with certification according to art. 64 of Legislative Decree 22 January 2004, no 42, of the Law on Cultural Heritage and Landscape (Italy)

For creating one's own product. Since the late 16th century, in France, furniture and lacquered items were produced and were generally very valuable and of all prices. It was a major player, like Italy and Great Britain, in the use and development of chinoiserie fashion, at the cutting edge in their adaptation within the industrial field and an international centre for the diffusion of the taste for the exotic and the Orient, whether in the artistic, literary, or theatrical fields.

It will be shipped with adequate packaging and will be insured and with tracking.

  • Lovely item and the seller helped sort an issue with the courier that was not his fault. Will definitely buy again from him.

Busto in stucco policromo di grande fascino. Nonostante i problemi dovuti allo spedizioniere DPD-BRT SpA, che l'ha gravemente danneggiato, il venditore è stato disponibile a risolvere la disputa.
