Late 1940s, Florence, Italy
Majolica tile with gold applications.
40 x 40 cm.
Inspired to the the ‘Esterhazy Madonna’ by Raphael.
Remarkable contrast between the shiny and bright surface and the intentionally rough and neutral contour, which makes the blue and gold of the figures stand out.
About Eugenio Pattarino at: www.archivioceramica.com
‘The sculptor and ceramist Eugenio Pattarino was born in Florence in 1885, where he attended the Academy of Fine Art. He was a student of Giovanni Fattori and completing his studies in Venice and Frankfurt.
He debuted in his artistic activity as a sculptor by making interesting marble artworks. Around the late 1930s he launched a ceramic workshop with his son Ranieri, called C.A.P.E.F. (Professor Eugenio Pattarino Artistic Ceramics), located at the address Via Squarcialupi 2 in Florence. Here he made pottery, majolica artworks and crockery in modern, traditional and antique style. During the post-war years, the workshop was joined by a wide selection of great potters from all over Italy.
Eugenio Pattarino ceased his activity as ceramist in 1966 and died in Florence in 1971’.

La invito, inoltre, a tenere presenti altri due fattori:
1) nel caso in cui avessi dovuto inviare il lotto in un'isola minore, il costo sarebbe stato più elevato e ci avrei rimesso (e non avevo modo, ovviamente, di saperlo in anticipo);
2) visto il prezzo irrisorio che ha pagato, non credo che €8 in più abbiano fatto la differenza: si è comunque aggiudicato un lotto interessante a meno di € 20!
