This carpet was knotted in central Persia. High-quality rugs often feature medallion patterns with fields of flowers, but variations are possible.
The patterns of Keshan rugs often are used as templates for machine-made carpets.
The Kashan rug can be found in most European royal courts.
Keshan rugs are typically high-quality, using a lot of silk in their designs.
The base is usually cotton, but some of the best examples are made of pure silk.
The wool has to be soft and the pile is tightly knotted.
Most Keshans have a similar design with a central medallion and Persian floral motifs which create the pattern, but like in most regions, designs may vary.
Popular colours are ivory, red, blue and pale green.
Please take your time to study the carpet in detail and enjoy this work of art.
